As we have repeatedly seen the trend of males asserting their superiority over women, "Indiscreet Jewels" follows suit, yet takes gender roles a step further. The power of the male domain is made clear through the Sultans power and amusement to make women's "jewels" speak as well as the depersonalization of the main female character, the Sultans "favorite," who is never given a name. Referring to the women's ovaries as jewels can also be seen as a name cover up. The refusal to name of both of these things indicates their "truth" to be a female quality that actually possesses power over men. This suggests that the silent nature of women is desirable by men who would like to hear women speak, yet they do not want their own sexual secrets to be revealed.

This hidden fear of men to be revealed sexually is also expressed in the power of the imagination. The ideas behind the remembrance and fear of nonperformance can consume these individuals and lead to further embarrassing situations. For the Sultan in "indiscreet Jewels" his use of the ring may be a way for him to reaffirm his masculinity through control over women's jewels due to his inability to control his penis.
