Nun-Lieutenant

I was impressed that this story of the life of "Eruso", for lack of gender identifying pronouns, is so similar to the story of Thomas Beatie. Beatie is a modern era story, while the lieutenant-nun is hundreds of years old. They are both born women who attempt to live life as a man, and be accepted as a man. It's obviously easier for Thomas to get away with this, It got him on Opera! but Eruso was continuously trying to cover it up. He/she joined the army, continued to get into fights, and fled to the new world to escape the time she was considered a women. And it all started at 15! One part of her story which was peculiar, is Eruso's homosexual tendency. It almost emphasizes the fact that she feels like a man in and out - she's attracted to women. It seems that having a vagina is the only thing keeping her from truly being accepted as a man; Except perhaps her lack of beard, which was overlooked by her male activities such as war. Although Eruso's life is a difficult one, It appears positive, A happy story, because he can live his life, with some provisions of course (cannot marry), but It's a past example of a phenomenon still occurring today, the transmutation into man and the struggles that arise from it.
