Is that them(it) that are(is) dictating to us or is it us who are dictating to them?

I really loved Silverman's essay since it was so related to the thyme of all the movies i am making. I am always fascinated with the relationship between cover (Hejab) in Islam for woman and the effect that its going to have on them and their self perception of themselves. Silverman was somehow exploring the same thing when she was talking about the ego that is defined or hidden under the clothing. This is what i exactly believe is the case for at least a woman who is "forced" to have cover on her self. She is an ego a self, wrapped under a peace of clothing that ultimately will define her as a new/different creature other than herself and as Silverman said she will be perceived through the eyes of others in the society "Mirror effect" as something that she will become with that cover outside of herself.

However that is the point that i slightly disagree with  Silverman on it. Silverman argues that people perceive themselves as something that the society sees them through that outside cover -- i.e clothing or veil ... But i think that no matter how we dress still inside of us we see ourselves as something that is usually different with the societies perception of us and that is why we are covering our selves with different styles of clothing in order to hide that true identity! As if Silverman is saying we become the one even "in our own eyes" that society dictates but i believe we will never believe in that dictated image and that is why we are keep pushing our self to cover up our true identity. As if we are fooling the society rather than the society fooling us!

  1. I really liked your post about how who dictates who and how event the appearance is not all. We are who we are and it will be represented in all our acts even if it is in an unconscious manner.
