"Campy" Jocks?
In Susan's Sontag's "Notes on Camp," she describes the concept of "camp" to be an aesthetic, in relation to stylization. In this sense, I would argue... then what is the difference between men in drag and Lady Gaga or women who stylize themselves to the point of looking like chubaca? And in reference to good taste in people, ideas and even food... who sets the standard I wonder? These are just thought that I am simply dissecting after reading and watching "Jocks in Frocks." In this episode, RuPaul assigns the contestants to dress up some athletes in drag and teach them how to work the catwalk, a pure transformation. And although the athletes will be "camped" out... I still think that there is something about men in drag that makes them really want to be in drag because it is who they are and no matter how many times you dress up a straight man, it won't be the same perception as that of a gay man. Still, the article is an interesting one to conceptualize and the episode can really give you insight into some aspects of drag in both homosexual and heterosexual males.
