Caster Semenya

There are all sorts of gender issues in sports as well. One interesting issue that happened recently during Track and Field World Championship is regarding South African runner Caster Semenya. She has won many races with remarkable records, but due to her masculinity, she has to go through gender testing. It is very sad to see such a great athlete having to go through humiliation like this.
Here is the link for a blog that has few pictures and some opinions from other people. (btw, it is a global feminist blog)

  1. I actually found it very troubling how as the blog stated, the British model, Agyness Deyn, has slender boyish looks but is never questioned about her femininity. On the other hand, Semenya, a professional runner, is questioned and forced to be gender tested. It seems as if they only care about the gender testing if they see that it might be to a person’s advantage that he or she is more masculine or feminine. This is very discriminatory behavior, especially against women who are “often an easy target due to the hidden social inequalities at play.”
