What I found most interesting about Jocks in Frocks, was the heterosexual response to the drag queen lifestyle. Initially, I thought the jocks were going to be extremely uncomfortable throughout their transformation, but what I found was that they actually seemed to enjoy it. A few of them even seemed aroused by their excessive exposure to camp. According to Susan Sontag, “camp taste draws on a mostly unacknowledged truth of taste: the most refined form of sexual attractiveness (as well as the most refined form of sexual pleasure) consists in going against the grain of one's sex. What is most beautiful in virile men is something feminine; what is most beautiful in feminine women is something masculine.” Evidently, because the jocks were outside of their comfort zone, their sexuality was put to the test. While some may have been simply amused by the experience, others could have potentially found a new taste for cross-dressing. One of the contestants even claimed that her jock was flirtatious. Whether or not this remark was purely speculation, it still raises questions; were the heterosexual jocks turned on by their introduction to camp? Is sexuality an absolute?
